The Chinese Taipei APEC-VC Web Site --- An informaiton exchange center for the promotion of environmental technologies and business opportunities.
Background
The APEC Virtual Center for Environmental Information Exchange (APEC-VC) was initiated by Japan in September 1995 at the 9th APEC Industrial Science and Technology Working Group Meeting in Mexico to advocate the dissemination of environmental information via the Internet.  Later in 1997, the Study Group, led by Japan, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Korea, was established to study how to enhance Virtual Center accessibility.  The main goal of the APEC-VC project is to encourage each economy to set up its own Virtual Center (WWW) to facilitate the exchange of environmental technology information in the region.  The Chinese Taipei APEC-VC project is led by the Environmental Protection Administration of Chinese Taipei (TEPA) with the support of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) and the National Center for Cleaner Production (NCCP).  Since December 1994, TEPA has been working with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) on the Environmental Information Exchange (ENIX) initiative to promote the electronic exchange of environmental information in the Asian-Pacific region by sponsoring web sites, newsletters and conferences.  To support APEC-VC, TEPA has expanded the contents and structure of ENIX to establish the Chinese Taipei APEC-VC web site in May 1998.
